The dangers of organ transplants

An organ transplant can save a life. However, if a medical professional makes a mistake, you can be in a worse situation than you were in before.

Around Australia’s hospitals, there are many people who are in need of life-saving surgery. However, for these to be successful, they need access to organs donated by people who have passed away. While the gift of an organ is an amazing act of kindness, there are times when medical issues stemming from the procedure could leave you in a worse shape than you were before.

Medical negligence lawyer can help you cover the costs of your medical bills and seek damages.

In cases like these, it is essential to talk to a medical negligence lawyer who can help you attain compensation that covers both the emotional and medical costs that come with further injury and illness.

Donations on the rise in New South Wales

There are a number reasons why you could end up in hospital awaiting an organ transplant. From Renal disease to liver failure, the effects of a number of illnesses can lead to organs shutting down or malfunctioning.

If this occurs, a transplant may be your only option. Luckily, New South Wales citizens are more than prepared to gift their organs after their death.

NSW Organ and Tissue Donation Service realised figures that show New South Wales has surpassed its target for 2015 in relation to donors.

In 2015, there were 127 deceased organ donors in New South Wales, which surpassed the previous high of 102 donors in 2013. The 127 doors allowed 379 organs to be transplanted throughout New South Wales.

Additionally, tissue transplants were on the rise as donations soared in 2015. For instance, there were nearly 7,000 corneal transplants that aimed to restore sight. There were also a number of heart valve transplants and bone and tendon donations for spinal injuries and for cancer survivors.

“The 2015 result could not have been achieved without the expert care for families and organ and tissue donor patients provided by specialist doctors and nurses in our hospital intensive care units and emergency departments,” Health Minister Jillian Skinner said.

However, there are times when medical professionals can make a mistake or have a lapse of judgement. In cases like these, patients can be exposed to serious injury or illness that may require further medical care.Have you been impacted by medical negligence?

Problems of medical negligence

Transplants can be a scary proposition, however, one of the reasons people are able to overcome their fear is through the reputation of professional doctors. So if a doctor makes a mistake, this can have serious repercussions for the health of their patients.

In times like these, it is important to have the advice of a specialist medical negligence lawyer who can help you understand your options and if legal action is viable.

Due to the risky nature of organ transplants, complications do occur that are unrelated to the level of care you have received. However, if these are the direct result of actions by a doctor, you may be able to seek compensation.

Specifically, doctors have a duty of care to their patients and are thus responsible for the client’s health and safety while under their professional gaze. If issues arise that stem from a failure to fulfil this obligation, you may be entitled to compensation in the form of damages due to medical negligence.

If you think your doctor may be liable for any injuries or sickness you are currently suffering from or have experienced in the past, it important to talk to the experts at PK Simpson today. Through their expertise, they can advise you on whether your grievances stem from medical negligence.
